Enjoy these photos of the parades, performances and installations that made up City Arts’ packed programme for Nottingham Light Night on Friday 5th February 2016. We joined local businesses and organisations in lighting up Sneinton Market and Hockley for the city’s amazing annual festival.

For the third year in a row our evening of events kicked off with the Unity Lantern Procession, run in partnership with the Renewal Trust and supported by the Creative Quarter. Accompanied by musicians from the Can Samba band, alien puppet Starchild and City Arts’ new puppet Arnold, young people from St Ann’s and Sneinton formed two beautiful lantern parades coming together in Sneinton Market Square for a display of community unity.

In the marketplace our stunning up-cycled sculpture, the Newstead Dragon, sat centre stage and sparkling in one of the newly re-furbished units. The dragon, created by artist Sarah Turner and young people from Newstead, was lost following a trip to the city centre. Throughout the night local schoolchildren brought lanterns to help guide him home.

The lantern parade handed over to the award winning, and now illuminated, Can Samba & City Arts “Flying Free” Carnival Troupe. The troupe featuring fantastic music, dancing bees, bianas and mobility scooter carnival floats. They created an incredible party atmosphere, leading around seven hundred revellers through the streets of Nottingham.

Back at City Arts HQ, folk threesome Higgs Bo’sun performed rousing sea shanties to a full house, alternating with talented pianist David Keye. In our shop window we presented “Frost Inside The Window”, an illuminated interactive art installation created by Nottingham care home residents, artists Mik Godley, Graham Elstone and Joe Pick, and filmmaker Ben Wigley.

Thanks to everyone who helped us put on these fabulous activities and events.
