Check out these beautiful photos of Portrait, a photo exhibition in Mansfield Market place, which ran for three weeks until the 16th May 2015. The gallery includes from the launch event on the 25th April.

Portrait was the first major commission of the First Art programme, a stunning installation which brought together two rising stars of UK photography, Kajal Nisha Patel and Mansfield born David Severn. The photographers worked with Portuguese producers, Procur.arte, using their innovative light-box exhibition system for the first time in the UK.

The PORTRAIT strand of the First Art programme aims to build a picture of the people and places of the First Art area. For the first in a series of projects, Kajal and David travelled across Ashfield, Bolsover, Mansfield and North East Derbyshire to capture and create an intimate picture of the local characters and landscape. The result was a series of raw and powerful images, which were seen by thousands of people over the course of the three-week exhibition.

Whilst the exhibition was on, a First Art ‘pop-up shop’ offered a range of interactive activities including the opportunity for the public to submit their own photos of the area and have them mapped on the First Art Photo Map website.

The First Art team are delighted that the exhibition made such big impact amongst local people. Their feedback will help shape upcoming projects in the area.
