We heard in May of the death of the much-loved Matt Marks. A musician and composer, Matt was in demand as a creative collaborator with artists, theatre makers, community performers, writers and arts organisations, not only in Nottingham but all over the world.
We are deeply honoured that Matt’s family have chosen City Arts to be the nominated charity for any donations that friends and family would like to make in his memory.
We will talk to Matt’s family about how to use the money raised, but we know that Matt’s commitment to music and music in the community will be at the core of it.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to all his family and friends. The world will be a quieter place without him.

“My mum and Matt’s mum were best friends at school (I was in fact named after Matt’s mum). We made contact again a couple of years ago after probably 35years or more. I was fascinated to hear about everything that Matt had achieved. I am so sorry I did not know him better but know he was and will continue to be an inspiration to many many people xx” Sally Yorke-Wade

“So sorry to hear that Matt had passed away. We were at school together, formed our first band together and acted in our first school play together- where Matt made an excellent Feste in Twelfth Night and also made all the art work for the posters etc. I think I still have a copy somewhere. We lost touch for a long time, but we caught up again recently and I had the great pleasure of seeing some of his performances in Derby and Nottingham over the past few years. He always had amazing creativity and inventiveness – and could make anyone laugh. Very sad to think he’s no longer with us – and this fund is a great idea to remember him by.” Brian Hayer
“The photo- That cocked eye, and the smile? He’s listening to your voice, as the most important in the room at that moment- how to blend that with everyone else’s voice. Mark truly gave people their voices- and a bit of stardust. Changed their lives.” Brian Abbott
“Matt you have left so much music, laughter and love in the world. It’s lovely to contribute to that legacy. I miss you x” Andrew Bakewell
