  • Artemis Apostolaki

    Administrator

    Responsible for day-to-day administrative tasks.

    Artemis enjoys being organised and helpful. She is passionate about high quality music and arts education which is accessible to everyone. She plays the cello, teaches and has done a PhD on verbal encoding of musical pitch.

  • Suzannah Bedford

    Director

    Responsible for the overall running and creative direction of City Arts.

    Suzannah has over 20 years’ experience of working in the arts. Her expertise spans across all artforms. Suzannah fundamentally believes that people are at the heart of shaping and making new possibilities in the arts. She is passionate about broadening access to creative experiences of the highest quality, ensuring that the arts celebrate the diversity that we enjoy today.

  • Alison Denholm

    Creative Development Manager

    Responsible for nurturing new ideas and projects, with a particular focus on outdoor arts: carnival, street puppetry, festivals and events.

    Her background is in visual arts and she has worked in Nottingham for 20 years. She was on the leadership team for the World Event Young Artist festival, likes a parade, and has made a set of giant flamingos.

  • Aoife O'Connor

    Creative Producer

    Aoife is responsible for the RESIDENCE programme, working with a cohort of artists to develop their ways of working and creating new work.

    Aoife’s background is in writing, performance and artist development, and they write and perform poetry. She has lived in Derby for 8 years after graduating from the University of Derby and they are a freelance producer and artists. They run poetry and performance events and are co-director of Derby Poetry Festival. She loves poetry collections.

  • Joe Pick

    Communications & Audience Development Manager

    Responsible for all City Arts' design, PR and its online presence. Also researching and monitoring audiences.

    Creating art makes Joe's life more enjoyable. He'd like other people to experience this. He is particularly interested in improving access through design. He made this website. He draws animals.

  • Laura Savage-Weeden

    Assistant Producer

    Assisting across all strands of the organisation, Laura works with the creative team to ensure the smooth running of all projects and events.

    Laura’s background is in dance, as a performer, choreographer and lecturer and is one of the founding members of Nottingham based dance company Next Door Dance. She also works as an independent producer based in the East Midlands and she loves a spreadsheet.

  • Alma Solarte-Tobón

    Creative Producer

    Leading projects focused on wellbeing and the artistic development of young people.

    A Fine Art graduate from Nottingham Trent University, Alma’s has ranged from Erasmus+ funded international projects to public art commissions. Alongside her work at City Arts, she is a Research Associate and Doctoral Researcher at Loughborough University.

  • Joel Stickley

    Deputy Director

    Responsible for the day-to-day running of City Arts and the management of strategic relationships.

    Joel’s background is in literature and arts management, with employers including Arts Council England, Nottinghamshire Libraries and Writing East Midlands. He used to be Poet Laureate for Lincolnshire and once won an award at Cannes Film Festival.

  • Michaela Butter MBE

    Chair

    Michaela has over 40 years of experience working in the arts as a curator, promoter and funder. She is the former Director of Attenborough Arts Centre, at the University of Leicester, and has previously worked for Nottingham City Council museum service and Arts Council England. In 2013, she was awarded an MBE for her services to the arts. She has lived in Nottingham since 1977.

  • Frances Franks

    Board Member

    Frances is a Chartered Certified Accountant. For the last last thirty years, she has been employed in a number of Finance roles, in retail, manufacturing and service industries. She supports businesses to understand the financial impact of their decisions and helps facilitate cost efficiency work. Frances brings the financial skills and experience she has gained to City Arts, whilst continuing to expand her knowledge.

  • Kevin Love

    Board Member

    Kevin Love is the Deputy Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University, a member of Nottingham Citizens Leadership Group and a Trustee of City Arts, Nottingham. His current research and practice concern the intersection of democratic and knowledge deficits in society, and creative ways of reimagining the role of the modern civic university.

  • Boseda Olawoye

    Board Member

    Boseda is a Nottingham based independent Creative Engagement Manager who is dedicated to making innovative arts projects in collaboration with diverse community groups and young people. Her work explores race, identity, place and social justice issues. She has 20 years experience working in the visual arts sector locally, nationally and internationally. She has collaborated with idle women Lancashire, Mark Deveraux Projects Manchester, Goldsmiths University of London, Nottingham Contemporary, National Justice Museum, Tate Modern, The University of Texas at Austin, The Legacy Makers and Bright Ideas Nottingham.

  • Martin Orrell

    Board Member

    Martin is passionate about the value of the arts in life. By day he is the Director of the Institute of Mental Health and Professor at the University of Nottingham. The Institute has worked with City Arts for many years hosting exhibitions and also has its own People’s Choir. Martin’s own research focuses on improving life and care for people with dementia and their families. On the artistic side he sings and writes poetry and other stuff.

  • James Parkinson

    Board Member

    James is currently Head of Business and Development for Nottingham Lakeside Arts; the University of Nottingham’s public arts programme. James previously worked for a variety of music charities across the East Midlands, led the arts programme for Newark and Sherwood District Council and was the Director for Thoresby Courtyard, a thriving visitor attraction on a private estate in North Nottinghamshire. James studied Music at the University of Sussex and singing at Birmingham Conservatoire. James is currently Chair of the University Arts Centres Network.

  • Michèle Taylor

    Board Member

    Michèle joined the board in 2014 and brings particular expertise and experience in disabilty and equality issues. She is a performer (one half of comedy duo "Bitter and Twisted" who appeared at the Derby Comedy Festival in 2015) and is also a photographer and digital artist. Michèle also works in individual and organisational development and is a qualified psychotherapist and accredited coach.

  • Néstor Valero-Silva

    Board Member

    Néstor is a senior academic at the Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University. He has significant research and doctoral research supervision experience in applied Systemic Thinking, and was a member of the Nottingham Contemporary’s Academic Advisory Board. Néstor is currently a co-investigator, and Chair of the ethics committee, for a £4.5million project that includes several European universities. This project aims to develop sustainable and energy efficient communities.
