Unleash your imagination and connect with ancient traditions in this immersive workshop, where nature, ink, sound and storytelling meet around a symbolic campfire. We’ll begin by sharing a story to spark creativity, before guiding you to craft your own short tale inspired by nature or your imagination.

Using natural ink made from oak galls, iron salts and gum arabic—like those used by medieval scribes—you’ll illustrate or write scenes and dreamscapes from your story. You’ll also learn to make a scroll tie from wild nettles, discovering the ancient skill of twisting plant fibres into strong cord.

Finally, you’ll create an atmospheric soundscape using handmade instruments and effects to bring your story to life. Whether written, illustrated or performed, your finished piece will be shared to a collaborative Instagram gallery celebrating participants’ creativity.

Presented by the Young Producers at City Arts as part of their 10 years anniversary takeover of City Arts’ venue 11-13 Hockley.

Who can attend?

This workshop is for ages 17+. You do not need any previous experience. Whether you’re into nature, sound, storytelling, or hands-on craft, there’s something here for you. Booking essential.

There is an earlier workshop for ages 8-16.

About the Young Producers

Based at City Arts, Young Producers is a group for creatives aged 18-30. It supports them to develop professionally and artistically. Young Producers meet regularly to share skills, plan events and exhibitions, and explore the local arts scene. Each November, Young Producers takeover the City Arts building for a mini-festival.
