Do you dream of working as a writer or poet? Would you like to learn more about setting up a creative business? ELEVATE is a free course to help young creatives jumpstart their careers.

From creating a business plan to building your brand, you’ll learn essential skills for starting a creative career. You’ll meet successful local writers and connect with creative businesses.

I went in thinking that becoming a self-employed creative was something I could never achieve. I came out thinking it could be a possibility, with much more of an idea of how to achieve it.

Who can apply?

The course is for writers aged 18-30, living in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Writers might include, but are not limited to, poets, novelists, short story writers and artists working with text.

You do not need to have professional experience of working as a writer. Anyone can apply but we will prioritise people who have taken non-traditional routes into literature. This might include:

  • People who haven’t had a formal education in literature
  • People who have faced barriers to entering the arts or creative industries because of their ethnicity, disability, social class or sexuality

On completion of the course, you’ll receive a certificate of attendance. You can include the course on your CV. If you need it, we will provide you with a reference for jobs or funding applications.

Your Commitment

The course is a total is of 28 hours. You need to be able to commit to attending all the sessions. Please read to prospectus for detailed dates and times.
