Nikki Charlesworth and Hoda Ali are recruiting performers to be involved in their new show, The Luckiest Girl Alive, funded by Arts Council England and performed as part of Refugee Week 2024. City Arts is supporting the development of the show.

The Luckiest Girl Alive is a sensitive and inspiring story. Using puppetry it tells the life of activist, campaigner and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) survivor Hoda Ali in her epic journey across the globe as her family sought medical care from the dangerous effects of FGM.

You can learn more about Hoda and her story from https://www.hodamali.com/

We are looking for 3 performers. Multi-rolling will be involved; however, some will represent specific, real-life people in Hoda’s story.

  • Female, black African, age non-specific. Representing Hoda Ali, a black Somali Woman.
  • Female, white European, age non-specific. Representing a doctor in Italy who treated and cared for Hoda.
  • Female, black African, age non-specific. Representing Hoda’s sister, a black Somali Woman.

The ideal performers will have a keen interest in puppetry, value working in a collective to devise new work, be up for experimenting, and be open to creative ideas. Experience in puppetry is not essential. This skill will be explored in rehearsal.
