From writing a business plan to building their brand, ELEVATE 23/24 participants learn essential skills for starting a creative career. 18-30 year olds enrolled on one of two free courses meet successful local artists and hone their creative business ideas.
The courses prioritise people who have taken non-traditional routes into the arts. This includes:
- People who haven’t had a formal education in the arts
- People who have faced barriers to entering the arts or creative industries because of their ethnicity, disability, social class or sexuality
ELEVATE 2023
ELEVATE 2023 worked with a small group of visual artists aged 18-30, living in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Visual artists include, but are not limited to, street or graffiti artists, photographers, painters, sculptors, printmakers, illustrators, graphic designers, cartoonists, animators, craftspeople, print makers and contemporary artists.
Participants attended a mix of online and offline workshop and talks that help them explore the possibilities of a creative career and build connections with other artists from their age group.
ELEVATE 2024
The second course focused on supporting writers, from poets to short story writers to artists working with text. A series of online and in person workshops covered key skills including business planning, networking and finding an audience for their work. Participants also attended talks with Nottingham-based professionals working in literature.
