A Q&A with New York based outsider artist Susan Spangenberg. Presented in partnership with the Institute of Mental Health.

Susan spoke about her life as an artist and the work in her online exhibition Escaping Childhood. We were joined by Elvira Perez Vallejos and Lou Rudkin from the Institute of Mental Health. They talked about the value of the arts to mental health and the work that happens at the Institute.

About Susan Spangenberg

Susan is an untrained self-taught artist. She prefers to create alone in self-isolation. Her work is autobiographical, commenting on her experience as a psychiatric patient. She has spent twenty-five years artistically chronicling the emotional and physical wounds she has suffered at the hands of life.
