THE HOOPLA! SILKS 8 JUNE - 25 JULY • MON-THU, 10AM-5PM • THE WINDOW GALLERY, CITY ARTS DESIGNS FOR A FAMILY FESTIVAL CREATED BY ALICE COBBIN INSPIRED BY 0-4 VEAR OLDS

Textile artist and designer Alice Cobbin created striking silk flags for City Arts Hoopla! festival. Hoopla! is our free festival for children aged 0-4 and their families. The festival visits outdoor spaces in Bulwell, St Ann’s, Aspley and Hyson Green & Arboretum.

The flags feature drawings by children from each of the festival areas. These were made when City Arts visited family workshops in each neighbourhood to ask people what they’d like to see at an early years arts festival.

These flags decorate the four festival sites. They transform parks and open spaces into welcoming places for a day of family fun. Alongside them we are showcasing a few of Lamar Francois’ photos of Hoopla! 2022.

In 2022, the first four festivals featured puppetry, music, dance and play. For 2023, we are adding circus artists to the line up.

The festival is funded by Small Steps Big Changes. This service commissions and funds work designed to give every child the best start in life.
