A free course to help young creatives jumpstart their careers.

ELEVATE

From writing a business plan to building a brand online, participants of our ELEVATE project learn essential skills for starting a creative career. The course teaches how apply for funding, and connects them with successful local artists and creative businesses.

ELEVATE introduces a small group of 18-30 year old applicants to people working in a wide range of creative careers, including digital arts, Illustration and games development. They get a masterclass from renowned artist Rebecca Smith.

The course prioritises people who have taken non-traditional routes into the arts. This includes:

  • People who haven’t had a formal education in the arts
  • People hoping to reignite their passion for creativity after a break
  • People who have faced barriers to entering the arts or creative industries because of their ethnicity, disability, social class or sexuality

Talks & Panel Discussions

ELEVATE participants join insightful talks from local mentors working in the arts and creative industries. Topics include building a brand, applying for funding, events promotion and working with people.

We have be able to open some of these sessions up to a wider public audiences, who wouldn’t necessarily be able to apply for the course.

Masterclasses & Training

Supported by Near Now, the course participants have the opportunity to work with acclaimed artist Rebecca Smith.

Rebecca has worked with brands including Spotify and Jimmy Choo, and musicians ranging from Stormzy to the BBC Philharmonic. Her masterclass is an introduction to using light as a medium. It explores a range of technologies, and looks at approaches to harnessing light for immersive artwork. It also discusses how to work sustainably and responsibly.

A two-day webinar led by The Prince’s Trust will covers marketing, selling, branding, personal finance, taxation, how to write a business plan and how to set prices.

Workplace Visits

An important part of the course is connecting our young creatives with Nottingham’s thriving creative businesses.

The diverse organisations include City Arts, Broadway Cinema and Fisher Gate Point. They will meet the inspiring people working behind the scenes at these locations.
