This gallery features images from “The Elements”, a multimedia arts showcase featuring performances by young people from the Mansfield area.  The performance took its theme from the four classical elements – Air, Fire, Earth and Water.  The show feature performances by young people from the MyPlace Centre in Mansfield and students from the Samworth Church Academy.  Original music, produced in collaboration with the project’s young participants, provided the soundtrack to the evening.

The event marked the end of the RESONATION project funded by Youth Music and Nottinghamshire County Council.  It was part of Nottinghamshire County Council’s County Youth Arts Showcase 2013.  These photographs were taken by Jo Wheeler.

RESONATION is a City Arts project that began in October 2011.  The 18-month long programme was targeted at young people from ex-mining communities in north Nottinghamshire.  It has worked to improve the confidence and life skills of young people by developing their musical ability and increasing their access to music, through which they can express themselves creatively.  Talented and experienced percussionists and musicians were employed to facilitate regular music session with the young people.

During the project City Arts was supported by Mansfield’s Disability Support Team and County Youth Arts to work with young people with learning disabilities from My Place.  A further partnership was developed with Samworth Church Academy to work with group of students.  The Giant Chimes proved an extraordinary musical instrument with which to engage different groups of young people.
